Setting goals is more than just making a list of what you want to do and deciding how to get there. It really is a process of exploring what in which you explore what it takes to get to where you want to go. Do you want to learn a skill? It is important that you be specific as to your destination an write it down. This is the first step in formulating a plan to get there.
2. Identify the Details. After you have made your mission statement, break it down. In other words, now that you know where you are going, find out what it really takes to get there. What path with you take? Make a "map" by researching a little bit before you take your first steps. Detailing your path in advance will help keep you from being distracted by simple mistakes and prevent avoidable mistakes due to ignorance.
3. Set intermediate goals. A great way to accomplish your goals is to set some intermediate goals. It is sometimes easier to stay on track if you take one step at a time.
4. Remove Distractions. Think of everything that may get in the way of achieving of your goals and write them down. Making a list of these distractions helps to identify potential deterrents that can be avoided.
5. Implement a Reward System.. Set up a small reward system for each step you complete. This provides an incentive to achieve. It doesn't have to be a big deal. Small rewards tend you work better than large one, as the purpose is not to be self-indulgent, but to promote self-discipline and completion of tasks.
You can achieve anything you want to if you approach it in the right manner. Sometimes it just takes a little help in finding out what the path to take, and how to create your own formula for forward-progress.
